Butorphanol Tartrate Dog. The dose may be repeated within 3 to 4 hours but treatment should not exceed 48 hours. Butorphanol was originally approved as a cough suppressant for use in dogs in the early 1980s.
It is also used in cats and dogs. This is equivalent to 5 ml of butorphanol tartrate injection for each 1000 lbs body weight. Mild sedation occurred, though it was greater in dogs given the larger dose.
